Nero d’Avola is one of our favorite wines to make, and this 2020 vintage is a chance to see how it evolves with a little time in bottle. The wine is a nod to the classic Nero d’Avolas of Sicily, with the character of Fox Hill Vineyard giving it a distinctly California expression.
The fruit is fermented on the skins in amphora and remains there beyond fermentation. We basket press in late January, then return the wine to amphora for 8 months of aging. The result is a wine with plenty of depth and savory character, while still showing the freshness we look for in Nero.
