WINEMAKER’S NOTES: This is more of “terroirs” wine than one from a specific terroir. The wine is sourced from 2 vineyards located within the Central Coast appellation, Happy Canyon in Santa Barbara and Santa Margarita in Paso Robles. The 2012 Cab Franc is 100% whole cluster giving the wine a softer/fleshier texture, plus 15% 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon that’s completely destemmed. This gives the wine a more medium bodied, Bordeaux nuance as opposed to my single vineyard bottling of Cabernet Franc which are more Loire-inspired.
VITICULTURAL AREA: Happy Canyon lies in the NE section of Santa Ynez. Slightly warmer than the rest of the valley, with serpentine soils. The Santa Margarita area is located at the Southern tip of Paso Robles with heavy shale and fossilized sea shells
